In the pursuit of a sustainable future, education plays a pivotal role in fostering a generation that is not only aware of environmental challenges but actively engaged in finding solutions. The “Survive and Thrive” whole school projects underscore the importance of sustainability in both surviving current global crises and thriving in a future where our planet remains habitable for generations to come. Here are four projects that aim to encourage schools to teach and engage students in sustainability, instilling values of stewardship and environmental responsibility in the minds of young learners.
Teachers are free to substitute items suggested in the projects for easily available items in their location. Organized to be conducted outside of class time, these projects also encourage the involvement of parents and other community members. Collaborative learning is enhanced because students will work in groups, sometimes of mixed ages, to conduct tasks.
By engaging in these fun activities, students will learn about ways to be sustainable in their communities.
